WIX is an exciting Bilingual musical environment, trying to give a sense of fun, freedom and confidence in a search for musicality in every child. There is great encouragement to ‘step up’ and be ambitious ‘take a risk’ grow in confidence and enjoy the sense of performance and be part of the team.
We have specialist music provision and a specialist music teacher at WIX and all children have the opportunity to:
Class teaching: National curriculum targets through foundation and early years KS1 and KS2.
Instruments/Musicianship: Y4 Trumpet, KS2 Guitar groups and KS2 Practical musicianship
Singing assemblies: Performance opportunities in weekly KS1, KS2 and Parent assemblies.
Individual targeted tuition: Booster music sessions for individuals and small groups.
Music opportunities at lunchtimes to sing, dance, and perform to music in the playground
Specialist instrument sessions at lunchtime e.g. guitar playing
Singing group: exploring songs and harmony
Instrument ensemble for KS1
Children have supervised access to iPads and software to explore their individual musical tastes and their favourite music artists. This is usually topic related.
Drama and Role-play is introduced during topic-based lessons, performances and assemblies. Each class performs two assemblies a year which parents are invited to. Large-scale performances take place at Christmas and in the Summer Term. These take the role of a Christmas sing-a-long for the Early Years children and a show for KS1. We embrace the fact that we all learn French from an early age and ensure that we have a mix of English and French songs in our performances. The children in upper KS2 put on a show at the end of the year as a celebration of their achievements.
We have a variety of clubs related to Performing Arts including, Drama Club, Choir, Upbeat, Busy Bees Club, Dance Club and Circus Skills. These clubs are open to all children with most being free as we use the expertise of our own staff. Clubs encourage children to learn new skills which they may not have the opportunity to experience in the classroom environment.
